District Committees Overview

After bonds are approved at an election compliant with Proposition 39, a governing board must establish an independent citizens oversight committee. The FUSD Citizens Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC) was appointed by the Board of Education on December 5, 2001, and took office following the certification of the March 5, 2002 General Bond Election which gave approval of Measure B.
The district arts team (DAT) was formed in conjunction with the Model Arts program approximately six years ago. The goal of the Fremont Unified School District Arts Team (DAT) is to expand the curriculum in the Fremont Unified School District in the Visual and Performing Arts K-12. The Fremont Unified School District received a Model Arts Grant for two consecutive years from the state of California to study the State of the Arts in the Fremont Unified School District. The grant is no longer funded, but the DAT team, with guidance provided by the Alameda County Office of Education, has continued to study and develop a plan to strengthen the Arts program K-12.
The Financial Advisory Committee advises the Board of Education on financial matters and helps communicate district financial issues to the community. The FAC continuously seeks comments and questions from parents and other community members about school budget and finance. The Financial Advisory Committee is intended as the avenue through which the Board will hear the voices of all concerned parties before making financial decisions.
The Health and Sex Education Advisory Committee provides the FUSD Board of Education with informed recommendations on the best curriculum and materials available for health and sex education instruction for students in our District. Recommendations of this committee are shared with the Teachers Health/Science Subject Area Committee. Votes from both groups are provided to the Board of Education for their consideration. The Health and Sex Education Advisory Committee shall consist of no more than 20 members representing all attendance areas. At least 50% of the committee will be students or parents/guardians of student(s) currently enrolled in Fremont Unified School District.
The Measure K Citizens' Oversight Committee provides independent oversight to ensure that the Measure K revenue received by the Fremont Unified School District is spent in accordance with the commitment made to the voters of Fremont.
The Parent Representative Advisory Assembly (PRAA) provides a place for parents to discuss important district issues with other involved parents, to advise the Superintendent and Board about issues of interest to parents and to bring timely, accurate information from the district back to their school sites. A PRAA representative and an alternate are elected from each school site. PRAA meets each month for two hours with the Superintendent. Board members attend the meetings whenever possible.
The Board recognizes the link between student health and learning, and is committed to providing a comprehensive coordinated school health program promoting healthy eating and physical activity. The focus of the Committee is to assist the District in building a coordinated school health system that supports and reinforces health literacy through health education, physical education, health services, nutrition services, psychological and counseling services, health promotion for staff, a safe and healthy school environment, and parent/guardian and community involvement.
The Technology Advisory Committee acts as advisors on the state of technology within the District. The Committee advises and make recommendations to the Board, Superintendent, and the District management staff as appropriate. The Committee chairperson submits a periodic summary of committee work to the board via the superintendent's office.
