It is imperative that your child arrives to school on time each and every day. Our expectation is that parents will assist their child to prepare for school every morning so that he/she does not miss any valuable instructional time.
School success is directly related to good attendance. Poor performance in the classroom is often the result of a poor attendance record. Although we encourage good attendance, please keep your child home if he/she has any of these conditions: dizziness, nausea, vomiting, severe congestion, or fever. The staff and students appreciate not being unnecessarily exposed to infections.
In the event that a student cannot attend school, parents must contact the attendance clerk the morning of their child's absence at 793-1141, option #7, stating the reason for the absence. If you cannot call the office, please provide your child with a written excuse the day he/she returns to school explaining why your child was absent. You may also report your students absence via email to email@example.com
Students who are tardy must report to the office to receive a tardy slip to be admitted to class.
Any student that meets the criteria as being truant (for excessive absence and/or tardies) will have the information recorded as part of their permanent record. This will result in letters being sent home, a mandatory meeting with the principal, and a referral to the School Attendance Review Board (SARB).
The SARB is composed of representatives from the District, law enforcement, probation and various community based and youth services agencies. Members work collaboratively to diagnose the problem and develop a plan to get the student back to school. Failure to meet with SARB or follow its directives can result in referral to Juvenile Probation for truancy mediation, or the District Attorneys office for prosecution.
It is the obligation of the parent to compel the attendance of their student at school. Any parent who fails to meet this obligation may be guilty of an infraction and subject to prosecution (Education Code 48260, 48260.5 and 48432.5).
