Weibel teachers are hard at work crafting instruction and assessments to correlate with the new Common Core State Standards.  This is a huge effort, and it is a shift in thinking for all of us—educators, students, and parents.  If you have questions about the new report cards and rubric grading, please come to this event:

Parent Information Night

Right now, we need your help more than ever. Your child’s safety is our first concern.  We are in great need of volunteers to monitor the lunch room and noon recess. We need about 5 more adults to ensure the atmosphere we want for our children.  Call the office if you can help, even one day a week.  It’s fun to talk to and help the children!  Try it for a day and see.

School Site Council (SSC) also needs parent volunteers.  These are the people who help make decisions about Weibel’s entire program, and advise the school on how we spend our funds.  Please nominate yourself—or someone else who you think is suited to the job.

Science Camp Volunteers.  Weibel 6th grade is preparing for the annual Science Camp at Mt. Hermon near Santa Cruz. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to practice team building, critical thinking, and self-reliance.

Parents interested in acting as chaperones on this trip need to contact their child’s teacher.  Chaperones will be required to commit to the entire 4-day period (December 2-6) and will stay in cabins with students.  They will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the camp, and for the required fingerprinting and background check (approximately $99).

Instead of parent chaperones, we have very successfully used Irvington High School seniors as student counselors for many years.  They have been specially selected to provide leadership under the supervision of our 6th grade teachers.  If enough parent chaperones do not volunteer, Weibel 6th grade Science Camp will once again use the services of Irvington High School student volunteers.

And as always, please remember, if any concerns or issues arise, please don’t hesitate to contact me via email or by phone. Go to Contact Us in the Quick Links to the left.
